Emily Tu : Ich liebe Zirkus Hund
The beautifully hand-rendered type that Chris Ware does for his comic books is what inspired me to create this decorative face. The words "Ich liebe Zirkus Hund" (I love circus dog) came from a random sketch I made one day when I was bored in my design class. There is some sort of nostalgic, haunting quality about old, mass-produced typefaces made during the Industrial Revolution that appeals to me, so I used this as a basis for my design. The short stop-motion film I created also reflects this. I used an old circus pop-up book as my set, and small miniature dogs like the ones I played with when I was young.
