Lost and found

The starting point for this workshop was a little sketch found in a restaurant in Moscow. We do neither know where it came from, nor do we know anything about the basic idea of it, or who made it.

The sketch is showing Byu. There is an extra help-line, between the x-height and the capital height. The construction of the letters could be defined with broad-nip, italic.

The help-lines, the size, and the way of drawing, makes us believe that this is a serious sketch of a serious type-designer. But what is the idea of this extra help-line, how should the other characters look like?
