daily impression/final result

day 1 : day 2 : day 3 : day 4   final result LED-group : Biggest group : Face-the-light group

The colder the better! The LED-Group developed the first sketches and afterwards designed all the lowercase characters within the same direction. And if that wasn't enough work, everything got digitized in FontLab and turned into a font. Pfff. Tomorrow time for caps? Tomorrow time for caps! (picture 1-6).

The Biggest-Group started do develop more characters within the chosen direction. More skechting, on paper and on screen. Sketching a letter is one, but sketching two letters which really fit to eachother is something else. Check this site tomorrow to see the difference (picture 7-12).

Sketching on paper was the main occupation of today for the Face-The-Light-Group. Hardly any computer at all. But in the end of the day, it was all worth doing this. And now? Let's get this font into the computer. Long live the group-spirit! (pictures 13-18).

O ja, there is this little movie (3 MB) where you can see our 2 minute walk this morning from the apartment to the academy. Lots of darkness and a bit of snow.

Looks really good. The one that says rhmuua looks realy great, solid and fat. What came to mind with the LED group is that pictures taken under a off angle perspective looked even nicer because the static/stifness of the LED kind of disapeared. You know what I mean? It got a little more playfull. It added some kind of dimension to it. Hmmm muslim thoughts I guess. And I have to go with Akiem in "how small cán you go?" The biggest-group type is realy something I look forward to in using, somehow someday . It almost looks like some fat kind of paperclip that's been bend around. #1 to me. But who is that strange guy in the orange shirt talking to the nice lady in the pink orange striped shirt ? Face-The-Light-Group lads made one giant leap for type face kind, at first I realy missed something, but now, especially the odmina one, you managed to give it that little funky spark it needed. Thanks. Abdullah keeps watching up on you, so keep up the hard work and work harder! Abdullah.

Hey Underwarers nice to see you doing another typeworkshop. its a great thing to see this kind of energy and its a really good way you do it with that straight quick & clear approach (publication+dokumentation) to it, it just must be extremly profiting for everyone - means i am jealous (as student myself). but (but) i must say (hard critique now!) when i see the different sketches of obviously different students i must say i sometimes cant believe that they are by different students because somehow they have strongly similar proportions and compactness (also fancyness & feeling) that underware typefaces have. maybe there is a strong influrence through your introduction presentation (i dont know its just a guess) also maybe i am wrong but this is just a feeling somehow - anyways i still think what you are doing is the best possible thing for you and also for typedesigneducation/typeformconcoiusness etc. so my best wishes to you and all the students who "just must" profit from this intensive expiriernce - good good luck - till

Excellent display of a great project (and in a great place too!). I liked the LED-project from the beginning; consistent in idea and shape, and beautiful as well. The BIG project looks sturdy and I'm very curious how it is going to be executed.... The RENAISSANCE type is moving away from it's origin, but I think that's for the better. Kill your darlings, it frees the mind. Curious what you're going to come up with at the end of the day. Good luck with these last hours!
